Waterproofing: The Trade Under the Trades

Waterproofing is the only trade a property owner never sees. When it is done right, it disappears under the tiles for decades. When it is done wrong, it surfaces as a stain on the ceiling below, a swollen skirting board, or a shower that has been "fixed" three times and still leaks.
The reason it fails is rarely the membrane itself. It is that the membrane sits between two other trades. The plumbing underneath it, the tiling on top of it. When three separate vendors each own a third of a shower, none of them owns the shower.
How a leaking shower actually gets solved
A leaking shower is the clearest test of the all-trades standard, because the fault sits on the seam of three trades at once:
- The plumbing: the mixer, the breach, the waste, the pipework in the wall
- The membrane: the waterproofing layer and its detailing at every junction
- The tiling: the substrate, the falls, the grout and the silicone above it
Fix any one of the three without the others and the water finds the gap. That is why the same shower keeps coming back, visit after visit, vendor after vendor.
When one hand owns all three, the sequence changes. The plumbing is confirmed tight first. The membrane goes down and is checked at every junction and penetration before a single tile covers it. Then the tiling goes on, with the falls running where they should. Water tested before handover.
Done once, owned end to end
That is the standard: strip-out, re-membrane and re-tile as one sequenced job, owned by one accountable team, so the shower does not come back on next quarter's list.
If a wet area on one of your properties keeps reappearing on the maintenance list, stop booking it one trade at a time. [Send us the list](/contact), or see the [waterproofing service](/services/waterproofing).
Every trade. One Standard.
